💡 Use the air fry basket. Arrange drumsticks in a single layer. You may need to cook in two batches depending on size. Apply BBQ sauce in the final minutes to prevent burning. Use a solid pan (not the basket) — this recipe contains liquids.

Main
  • 8 chicken drumsticks (about 2.5 lbs)
Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
Sauce
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1 tbsp honey
Garnish
  • fresh chives (chopped, for garnish)
📝 Instructions
  1. Pat drumsticks completely dry with paper towels. Toss with olive oil. Shared 💡 Olive oil helps the dry rub stick and promotes browning.
  2. Mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Rub all over drumsticks. Shared 💡 Get the rub under the skin too — rub directly on the meat for deeper flavor.
  3. Preheat Ninja on Air Fry at 380°F for 3 minutes. Lower Oven
  4. Place drumsticks in the pan in a single layer. Air Fry at 380°F for 15 minutes. Lower Oven 💡 Start skin-side down if you can tell which side is which.
  5. Flip drumsticks. Air Fry at 380°F for 10 more minutes. Lower Oven 💡 Drumsticks should be starting to brown and crisp.
  6. Mix BBQ sauce with honey. Brush generously onto drumsticks on all sides. Air Fry at 380°F for 3 more minutes. Lower Oven 💡 Saucing at the end prevents burning — BBQ sauce has sugar which burns quickly.
  7. Check internal temp reaches 175°F. Rest 5 minutes, garnish with chives, and serve. Shared 💡 Drumsticks are safe at 165°F but more tender at 175°F.
💡 Ninja Tips

BBQ sauce burns easily due to sugar content — always apply at the end. For extra-crispy skin, coat drumsticks with 1 tsp baking powder along with the dry rub. Drumsticks are forgiving — they stay juicy even if slightly overcooked.

Scaling: To double: cook in two batches. To halve: use 4 drumsticks, halve seasoning and sauce.
